The CIO Institute: Cambridge event is set to take place on the 22nd of September, 2022, after a highly successful London event which ran earlier this week.

The London event featured a diverse line-up of speakers from a variety of industries and sectors who came together to discuss the latest trends, opportunities and challenges surrounding the IT sector as we emerge from the pandemic and find our footing in the real world again.

The opening panel covered the differences between the roles of the CIO and CISO and how the two functions can align to achieve greater collaboration. As this topic is one that is highly discussed within the CIO community, the institute will be releasing an interview conducted with Lee Whatford, CISO of Domino's on Power Pairing on a Whole New Level, set for publication later next week - stay tuned for this exciting piece.

Following on from the opening panel, a keynote session was conducted by Cisco on strategies to adopt to ensure a successful hybrid workforce. In this new world we live in where lines are blurred, it is key for firms to adopt a people-first approach, however, by doing so, firms are faced with a whole new set of challenges, particularly in finding the right systems that support the new ways of working which align to their business needs.

Another key highlight was the session by Claire Deuchar, CIO of RNLI who is also the institute's advisory board member. Deuchar discusses capability modelling and what it can do for mid- to smaller-sized firms. This session covered some amazing pointers and shared on how the RNLI transitioned from a traditional fundraising approach to going digital when the pandemic hit, whilst having to develop speed and agility without losing focus of donors. Should you wish to learn more about this, Deuchar can be contacted on the community.

As climate change and sustainability continue dominating the agendas of many, this leads to our next spotlight session by Citrix, hosted by Gerard Lavin, Field CTO. This interactive sessions discussed the role IT leaders play in promoting sustainability with an emphasis on green IT, allowing IT experts to share on what their firms are doing to support this initiative.

The second half of the day saw some key themes being discussed such as how firms can lower the risk of Kubernetes adoption, ethics and AI, strategies to modernise legacy systems, ransomware and steps to recover data quickly.

Should any of these topics appeal to you, reach out to us at the CIO community and we will put you in touch with the speakers who will answer any questions you may have and would be thrilled to connect with you. If you wish to have access to their presentations, let us know and we will be happy to help sort this for you.
